Glitter
Every night, I have these dreams
that tell me about my life
Sometimes they’re very vivid
and sometimes they’re in black and white
And in the day light in clear view
I hear of things, I already knew
But in all my visions,
I never saw the love inside of you so true.
You listened to my dreams
and told me they meant everything
and I heard of your tales
of sad crimes and little girls
And I woke you up for school
cause you were just, just so cool
and I’ll give you several warnings
cause you break all the rules.
And sometimes when I feel lonely,
And I ask does anyone know me
and when the days pass by so slowly
Well, you know, you know your love was just always there.
Well you listened to my songs
and you can tell when something’s wrong
and you know all the trees
And you feel the weeping willow bleed
Tears come to my eyes
from the words that you say
it’s a wondrous kind of surprise
how you touch my heart that way
And sometimes when I feel lonely,
I might ask does anyone know me
and when the days they pass by so slowly
Well, you know, you know your love was just always there.
All the love I sent to you
came back to me like paper and glue
I poured a little Glitter on
And watched the sparkles shine on.

CHRISTOPHER
Where is my son,
no not the one in the sky
he has wondered into the crowd.
He’s not very loud
out there in the crowd
and he could be floating with the butterflies
But he has the light of a thousand fire flies
all caught inside those deep brown eyes
And wait till he laughs, oh when he laughs
you’ve never seen anything in all of his dreams
He carries two sticks
one has it’s bark the other is striped
it may be hard to see him there among the trees
Where is my son
where did he go
the sky has turned gray
and it’s starting to snow

The Way of the World

THE WAY OF THE WORLD
It’s been a year and a half
since I spent a week
sitting in that hospital room
watching you, watching you sink
You drowned in your own water
you lived in it too
sometimes we leave this earth the color,
the color of blue
Why do, why do we have to change a thing
why can’t, why can’t we hold on to everything
Cause that’s the way of the world
cause that’s the way of the world
From the day you were born, you had all of your dreams
though sometimes you felt torn,
you had your will and the means
ever since you’ve been gone
I’ve been building these walls
tried to keep the pain outside,
but it seeps in, seeps into us all.
So you watched the water flow
and the shine come from sun
you watched your plants grow
pulled the weeds pulled them one by one
and now I build these gates to prevent the floods
and now I open them wide
to let in, to let in the love,
to let in, to let in the love,
Why do, why do we hold on to everything
Why can’t why can’t we change just one thing
Cause that’s the way of the world
cause that’s the way of the world.

So Perfectly

SO PERFECTLY
If I could be that picture inside my head
put together so perfectly
Would I find myself in a new world
or in another foreign country
Would the love I know come back to me
some other unexplained way
I want to fly around
from the sky down to the ground
climb the branches on the trees
and russell up the leaves, russell up the leaves
There are two sides to everyone
there is the light and the dark hides from the sun
we must embrace them both
raise a glass and make a toast to all of our ghosts
If I could be that picture inside their heads
put together so perfectly
would I find myself in a new world
or in another foreign country
Would I be Free, would I be me.

ALBA’S SONG
Up upon the mountain at the end of a chain
he paces back and forth
he’ll not answer to his name
His coat falls around him like the snow upon the peaks
his dark eyes do reveal what his voice will never speak
He was meant to be singing with the wind
He was meant to be a guild to brother man
He was meant to be running through the trees
but sometimes he just walking on this land
sometimes he just walking on this land
You can’t really see it, it’s invisible to the eyes
but it’s strong as steel bars, and cleverly disguised
and it all surrounds us like a cage
we are born into this place like prisoners of rage
We were meant to be flying to the moon
we were meant to be high above the clouds
we were meant to be shining like the stars
but sometimes this is just who we are
sometimes this is just who we are
Blood flows over the same old scars
drawing lines around who we are
and when they break open it can cleanse your soul
but only when your willing to really, really let go.

Once

ONCE
Once along time ago, I was a bird
who’s song was just too small to ever be heard
And I lived all alone among other strangers
smoothing their pain with the softness of my feathers
and I lived on an island
I kept my colors under my wings
and when the days were just too grey
I would open my arms and paint everything
And once along time ago I dreamt I could fly
over the mountains and into the sky
straight as an arrow into your eyes
But now I am walking through this arid land
the sand is like the ocean as it passes through my hands
And if you have to ask me what brought me to this place
I’m drawn by the beauty and the history of tragedy
like the sadness on your face
And if I could just ask you just one simple thing
hey what are seeing, and what are you thinking
when you tell me nothing
Cause once along time ago I dreamt I could fly
over the mountains into the sky
straight as an arrow into your eyes
And once along time ago I was a bird
who’s song was just too small to ever be heard.

SPIDER THREADS
I’m sitting in this room and I’m listening to the tune
she’s talking about the earth’s unavoidable doom
And there across my way she is sipping her soup
puts the cup to her lips like a child might pray
And there beside her in her long golden braids
she asked me before was she like an Indian Brave
What is this I see
What is this I feel
I ask him about it and he says it’s quite real
I think there are angels in here
though they may try to hide
their wings are just tied by a spider’s threads
a spiders web
She wares her sadness upon her face
though she’s not crying not crying today
and here beside me with her eyes open wide
she listens to the other’s excitement and pride
If you carefully unwind them they’ll be free to soar
and they’ll light up the darkness and speak to us all
What is this I see
Hey what could this be
I tell him about it and he has an idea
He thinks there are angels in here
he thinks there is angels in here.
I’m sitting in this room and I’m listening to the tune
she’s talking about the earth’s unavoidable doom
I think there are angels, I think there are angels
I think there are angels in here, I think there are angels in here.
